What to Include in a UGC Contract Usage Rights Clause

A good usage rights clause says exactly what the brand can do with your content, where, for how long and for what fee. If any of those is missing, ask for it in writing before you start.

Example wording to discuss

"Brand may use the Content on [channels] as [paid ads/organic posts] in [territory] from [start date] through [end date]. Further use requires a written renewal and a fee agreed by both parties." This is an example to help you prepare, not legal advice. Ask a lawyer to review contracts that matter to you.

Watch for broad wording

Be careful with phrases like "in perpetuity", "all media", "worldwide" and "derivative works". They can give a brand far more than the fee reflects. Ask what the brand actually needs, then narrow the wording.

Save the dates straight away

Once the contract is signed, add the end date to your tracker. UGCPing can work it out from the start date and length and email you before it arrives.
