What Happens When UGC Usage Rights Expire?

When UGC usage rights expire, the permission you gave the brand ends, and using the content further generally needs a new agreement. What applies to you depends on your contract, so read that first.

Check what your contract says

Look for the usage period, the channels covered, and any line about what happens at the end. Some contracts give the brand time to take content down. Others renew automatically or grant longer rights than you remember.

Check whether the content is still live

Look at the brand's organic posts and search the Meta Ad Library for its running ads. TikTok has its own ad library in some regions. Take a dated screenshot of anything you find, because ads can change quickly.

Offer a renewal first

A live ad usually means the content is still useful to the brand, which makes it a good moment to ask. Name the period, the channels and the fee, and offer a simple way to confirm it in writing.

Ask before the end date when you can

Asking one or two weeks early gives the brand time to get approval before the campaign is interrupted. UGCPing emails you 14, 7 and 1 day before the end date, on the last day and 3 days after it.

Get legal help if it becomes a dispute

This guide is general information, not legal advice. If a brand refuses to respond or the amount is significant, ask a lawyer in your country to review the contract.
